McNay Truck Line

The Challenge:

McNay Truck Line is a truckload carrier headquartered in Quincy, Illinois that transports liquid food products, dry bulk material in pneumatic trailers and temperature-sensitive loads in vans and reefers. It also provides barge unloading and transfers of dry bulk or liquid products from barge and rail to trucks, and vice-versa.

The company has been working with Trimble solutions for nearly a decade. Training new employees on the use of Trimble platforms became a great challenge for McNay managers, as this crucial, but the time-consuming task had been affecting productivity. The company also wanted to broaden its staff’s knowledge of Trimble products used by the team and ensure easy access to instructions regarding specific features, aiming to improve performance.

The Solution:

McNay Truck Line wanted to enhance its team experience with TMW.Suite. The online, educational platform, Learn Trimble Transportation, fiit like a glove. It offers video tutorials and easy-to-read documentation to help users quickly find the right answers to their questions. McNay’s team engaged in virtual classes and conferences, as well as hands-on lab experiences.

“We have super users who still refer to the help section when questions arise from time to time, says Angie Crow, the company’s traffic coordinator. “It is convenient to review videos or take a refresher course, when needed, instead of submitting a ticket for help.”

For some training sessions, McNay staff requested additional remote support over the phone, which allowed them to see how other users benefit from the same features. The team has also been accessing the Learn Trimble Transportation website for training purposes.

The Result:

Learn Trimble Transportation saved McNay managers a lot of backtrack time and helped boost productivity while training new staff. By watching training videos, new hires get basic knowledge and an overview of the job in the field even before they actually go to the field.

From the trainers’ perspective, having access to the online tutorials avoided unnecessary repetition of content and reduces face-to-face training time.

Online, on-demand training has also proved to be useful when an employee has to be covered by another employee, so the replacement has a source of valuable information at hand.
