Nationwide Express

The Challenge:

Based in Tennessee, Nationwide Express is a truckload carrier with warehousing and logistics capabilities. Founded in 1981, the company prided itself on covering lanes mainly but not exclusively throughout the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest and Southeast US. Business was hearty. But over time, even with extensive in-house experience, Nationwide Express viewed its IT operations as too complex and too expensive to continue to handle internally. The company needed an efficient, more streamlined solution going forward. 

The Solution:

Nationwide Express selected transportation management software from Trimble Transportation. The enterprise software, Innovative Access Plus, is powered remotely on IBM System i in a Software as a Service (SaaS) model. With the degree of complication removed, the company is using the application functionality through a subscription model over the Internet. Gone is the burdensome cost of developing, buying and maintaining an in-house technology solution. And, Nationwide Express no longer needs to support multiple platforms or versions. Changing from a premised-based system is an effective alternative.

The Result:

The company employees now log on to the Internet and all of their information is right in front of them. Trimble is the outside source for IT security, redundancy, and systems knowledge. Innovative Access Plus software is hosted by Trimble. All data and functionality are replicated for backup and recovery purposes. Life is easier at Nationwide Express now that the company can concentrate on the business of moving and storing freight instead of the mechanics of IT.
