The Newest Version of PC*Miler Has Been Released with Trailer Exemptions and More

Trimble’s PC*Miler has long been the industry standard for route planning and the most reliable source for mileage tracking and distance calculations. That’s why we’re excited to announce the release of the newest version of PC*Miler. For its 38th iteration, PC*Miler has implemented a number of features and bug fixes to improve functionality and the user experience.

Chief among these enhancements is the addition of routing support for all vehicles with 53’ length and/or 102” width trailers that take advantage of state and national road network rule exemptions. When it comes to vehicle and trailer sizes, there are certain rules and requirements associated with a regular load compared to an “oversized load.” A trailer that is 53’ in length and/or 102” in width is the largest a vehicle can be before being considered an “oversized load,” which would then require the operator to possess further certification.

This new PC*Miler feature creates more freedom for the largest combinations of trucks in the United States that are affected by the 53’ length and/or 102” width rules and regulations that force travel to the state and national network designated highways. This update will also allow us to continue providing legally compliant, safe and efficient routes for all vehicles using our solution and which might take advantage of those exemptions.

In addition to this major change, we’ve implemented several important map updates that will enhance fleets’ day-to-day experience with PC*Miler. We’ve added:

  • 345 major new construction road projects
  • More than 32,700 new locations in our Places library
  • More than 27,600 new geocoded site locations, including distribution centers, retail storefronts, manufacturing plants, truck stops and service centers
  • More than 2,800 miles of new US highway network roads
  • Truck through-travel restrictions were updated within over 1,000 city limits

On top of these changes, this update also includes an enhancement to estimated travel times to ensure carriers are getting the most accurate travel times and can provide their customers reliable ETAs.

We’re proud to say that according to the results of the 2023 FreightWaves' top 100 carriers, PC*Miler is used by 94% of FreightWaves’ customers, and 96% of the US-based for-hire carriers included in Transport Topics' top 100 list. With these most recent updates, PC*Miler continues to uphold the industry standard as the go-to resource for practical routing and mileage tracking. PC*Miler is available as locally-installed software, an API integration or as a web-based solution.
